We envision a future where horse owners have the knowledge to better understand their horses' hooves, work confidently alongside experienced hoof care professionals, and make informed decisions when professional services are unavailable or delayed.

EquiHoof was created with a long-term vision: to make practical, structured hoof care education more accessible to the people who need it most.

Across Australia, many horse owners face the reality of limited access to experienced hoof care professionals. While professional hoof care will always remain the preferred option wherever it is available, education has an important role to play in helping owners better understand their horses, recognise when professional assistance is needed, and provide responsible care between appointments or when services are unavailable.

As EquiHoof continues to grow, so too will its educational resources. Our vision is to develop a comprehensive learning platform that supports horse owners, contributes to the ongoing development of the wider equine community, and encourages lifelong learning built on responsibility, understanding and care.

Every course, unit and module is created with one purpose in mind: to help people make informed decisions that lead to better outcomes for horses.

Education before action

Understanding must come first.

At EquiHoof, we don't teach isolated techniques or step-by-step methods without first providing the knowledge that gives them meaning. Our courses are structured to build understanding progressively, with each unit and module developing a solid foundation before moving into more practical application.

When people understand how the hoof functions and why particular approaches are taken, they are better equipped to make calm, informed and responsible decisions.

Education is not about doing more. It is about knowing enough to do what is necessary, appropriate and in the best interests of the horse.

Clarity over urgency

Hoof care decisions should be measured, not reactive.

At EquiHoof, we believe clear understanding leads to calm, informed decision-making. Our education encourages learners to observe carefully, reflect thoughtfully, and build confidence through knowledge rather than reacting out of uncertainty.

Urgency has an important place in genuine emergencies. However, most learning is best supported by clear explanations, steady progression and sound judgement.

Our goal is to replace uncertainty with understanding, helping horse owners make responsible decisions in the best interests of their horses.

The wellbeing of the horse sits at the centre of everything we teach.

Before technique, before confidence, and before progression, welfare comes first.

Every course reinforces responsible decision-making, appropriate boundaries, and the importance of recognising when the knowledge and skills of an experienced hoof care professional or veterinarian are needed.

Good hoof care is not defined by independence. It is defined by doing what is right for the horse.

My Journey into Hoof Care

My journey into hoof care didn't begin with a plan to become a farrier. It began out of necessity.

Living in regional Western Australia, I struggled to access consistent hoof care for my own horses. Wanting to do the best I could for them, I completed my first barefoot trimming course in 2009 so I could better understand and manage their hoof care myself.

Then Whirlwind came into my life. He was incredibly thin-soled and required shoeing to remain comfortable. Once again, access to experienced hoof care was limited, so I committed to learning more.

What began as a desire to help one horse became a lifelong commitment to improving hoof care for many.

Looking back, I don't think I became a farrier because I wanted to shoe horses. I became a farrier because I wanted to do better for the horses in my care.

That same philosophy became the foundation of EquiHoof.

I believe good hoof care starts with good education. Every horse owner deserves the opportunity to understand the why behind hoof care, develop sound judgement, and make informed decisions in the best interests of their horse. Professional hoof care will always be the preferred option wherever it is available, but when it isn't, education empowers owners to provide responsible care with confidence.

That is the purpose of EquiHoof.

Why EquiHoof Was Created

EquiHoof was created from lived experience.

As a horse owner in regional Western Australia, I experienced first-hand how difficult it could be to access consistent, experienced hoof care. Like many owners, I wanted to do the very best for my horses, but finding practical, reliable education that explained both the why and the how of hoof care was not always easy.

That experience shaped the philosophy behind EquiHoof.

We believe education should build understanding, not uncertainty. It should encourage thoughtful decision-making rather than rushed reactions, and give horse owners the confidence to ask questions, continue learning, and work alongside experienced hoof care professionals whenever possible.
